Fine Morning

August of 2012 I took a 6-day trip from Chimney Rock, Nebraska to Devil’s Gate, Wyoming, retracing the original Oregon-California-Mormon Pioneer Trail as best I could. I brought along my miniature pioneers and a copy of the diary my great-great-grandfather (James Bellamy Farmer) wrote as he traveled this trail in 1853.

This long-term video project is an imagined historical narrative, using original diary excerpts, but featuring two women as protagonists. Summer of 2014, as part of my Brush Creek Arts Residency, I created the first rough video edit. I completed additional shooting in 2016 (after a long recovery from a ruptured appendix). Here are a few stills from this work-in-progress.
